Denied love

They’ve told me all my life to be myself/
yet when I started loving/
the greatest sorrow took upon their hearts./
How did this happen, we gave you everything/
why are you so ungrateful/

while all I wanted was to live,/
to love a woman such as myself/
just to be loved./

They’ve told me I can be a doctor,/
lawyer, president,/
but when I told them I was queer,/
they demanded to take off my skin/
to throw away my identity/
You are not allowed to live./

They’ve told me I can marry whoever /
I want/
but a woman, never a woman/
never who I truly love./

Inside the Arcade of the Scribes, I write about my love for her/
Because that’s all there is to do when one’s love is denied./
